In this sequel to Alien, Riply returns to planet where the Alien was found, with some marines to find out what happened to the colonists there.

This movie is the best example of a multi-category movie ever.  It has humor, mystery, sci-fi, action, and drama.  The long period of nothing happening is a great build of tension.  I mean, literally, nothing happens for the first 45 minutes of the movie.  But Cameron doesn't go for the cheap scare.

Typically, in a "scary" movie, the good guys are minding their own business, and something jumps at them.  It is called a "false scare", because it is always something not scary, but usually, withing 30 seconds, the real monster shows up.  None of that here.

When the marines, cocky and unprepared meet the aliens for the first time, getting mostly get wiped out, it is pure awesomeness.

I really enjoyed the characterizations of the marines.  They all have their own personality and mannerisms.  Sarge, Hudson, Frost, Hicks, Vasquez, etc, etc.

Newt, while an interesting plot point, got kind of annoying at times.  I could really feel for him, when Hudson yells "Why don't you put her in charge?!"
